With Deutschrap Undercover, Burgeramt Berlin is publishing a unique collection of cover designs in cooperation with Stylefile, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the most popular German rap covers from the early 90s to the present day. To this end, author Vanessa Seifert spoke to graphic designers, photographers and rappers to shed light on the genesis of over 70 covers. After all, alongside the music itself, it is the artwork that is imprinted in our memories with personal experiences. We associate them with important phases of our lives that the mere sight of a cover brings back to mind or we feel sympathy when we discover someone’s favorite record on the record shelf. Sometimes we forget the record’s title, but the image remains in our minds. Now there are the stories behind it.
